Public buses (SITA) — the budget option

You can reach Bomerano by public bus for a few euros. The route from most hubs is: Sorrento / Positano / Ravello → Amalfi (via SITA bus), then Amalfi → Bomerano (Agerola) (another SITA bus uphill). Buses run several times a day but are infrequent and often crowded in summer. The uphill journey takes 1.5–2 hours. Return buses from Positano are also limited and can be hard to catch on a full stomach after the hike.

The problem: bus timetables are irregular, buses fill up, and if you miss one you wait 30+ minutes. After hiking, your legs and feet are tired and your only thought is food and rest — not standing in the heat waiting for a bus that may not come. This is why most hikers choose a tour with transfers.

Guided tour with transfers — the popular option

The most popular way to hike the Path of the Gods is with a guided tour that includes round-trip transfers. A minibus picks you up at your hotel or a central meeting point in Sorrento, Positano, or Amalfi, drives you to Bomerano (40–60 minutes), you hike the path with a guide (3 hours), and the same minibus meets you in Positano afterwards and takes you home. No timetables, no stress, no standing in the sun waiting for a bus.

What is included: round-trip transfer, a professional English-speaking guide, and often a stop at a shepherd’s hut for bread, cheese, tomato, and honey. Many tours come from Sorrento (easiest if you are staying there). Some start from Positano or Amalfi.

Renting a car

If you have a car, you can drive to Bomerano. Parking exists in the square or nearby. The route is well-signed from Amalfi. But driving the narrow Amalfi Coast roads requires nerve, and you have the return drive after a tiring hike. Unless you are a confident driver or it is off-season and roads are quiet, it is not the easiest option.

Private transfer only (for confident solo hikers)

If you want to hike alone but skip the bus timetables, you can book a private driver transfer to Bomerano only. An English-speaking driver picks you up, takes you to the trailhead, and you hike back on your own at your own pace. The Path of the Gods itself is free. But the logistics — getting to a high, remote trailhead and back from another point — are genuinely awkward without a car.
